Overview of the Dixie Fire

The Dixie Fire started on July 13, 2021 and raged for more than 100 days, tearing through 960,000 acres in five counties. The largest single fire in California history, the Dixie Fire racked up over $630 million in suppression costs. The Dixie Fire caused devastating damage in Butte, Plumas, Shasta, Lassen, and Tehama counties, destroying 1,329 structures.

In a now familiar story, PG&E power lines were to blame for the Dixie Fire, although this time from a tree striking a transmission line. In April 2022, PG&E reached a settlement that allowed it to avoid criminal charges related to the Dixie Fire. The agreement is part of a $55 million settlement that resolved criminal charges in the Dixie Fire and the 2019 Kincaid Fire in Sonoma County.

  • The extent of damage to real property
  • The value of damaged or destroyed personal property
