History of the Mountain View Fire

The Mountain View Fire ignited on November 17, 2020 in Mono County, California. It occurred due to strong winds in the Eastern Sierra Nevada and burned approximately 20,879 acres before it was contained on December 11, 2020.

The fire occurred a week before Thanksgiving. It killed one person, displaced over 100, and destroyed over 80 structures in Walker, CA and surrounding areas.

What Caused the Mountain View Fire?

The Mountain View Fire is still under investigation. However, many point to Liberty Utilities as the cause, alleging that it was negligent in maintaining and inspecting its power lines in the area.

The power lines were non-insulated metal conductors that were affected by the strong winds on November 17, 2020, causing contact with nearby vegetation. Another allegation is that Liberty Utilities failed to de-energize the power lines during the storm, resulting in the fire.
